Help & FAQ
Quick how-tos for everything you can do with Loocation.
Getting started
What is Loocation?
A community-driven map of public, business, and friend-only toilets. Anyone can drop a throne, rate it, and leave a review. Verified businesses can manage their own listings, hours, and happy hours.
How do I sign up?
Open the app and choose Apple, Google, or Facebook on the welcome screen. We'll then walk you through three quick steps:
- Pick a display name (the name other users see).
- Pick a unique username (used in friend search).
- Verify your phone number (used only for friend discovery β never shown publicly by default).
You can change any of these later in Settings.
Finding & reviewing thrones
How do I find toilets near me?
Open the Map tab. Allow location access when prompted, and pins will appear around you. Use the filter chips up top to switch between Mine, Friends, and Others, or combine them. Tap the sort menu to order by distance, rating, cleanliness, comfort, or "free first".
How do I leave a review?
- Tap a pin (or open a throne from the list view) to open its detail sheet.
- Tap Add review.
- Rate overall, cleanliness, comfort, and space (1β10 sliders). Add a photo and a comment if you like.
- Choose who sees it: Public, Friends only, or Private (just you).
Your rating still counts toward the throne's averages even if the review text is set to Friends or Private. Visibility is asked every time you post β there's no "default" setting to manage.
What do the score categories mean?
- Overall β your gut score for the whole experience.
- Cleanliness β how spotless the place actually felt.
- Comfort β lighting, smell, ambiance, feeling-safe-while-you-sit.
- Space β how cramped or generous the stall is.
- Reception β your cellular signal / mobile data quality inside (1β10). Averaged across reviews and shown alongside Cleanliness, Comfort and Space.
Amenities (paper, soap, baby-changing, accessible, Wi-Fi, cost) are tracked separately as facts on the throne β not scores. The amenities strip on every throne shows the full list with a colour for each present amenity and a strikethrough when one's missing, so it's obvious at a glance what's there and what isn't.
The Wi-Fi chip is a simple yes/no β does this place offer Wi-Fi? Cellular signal is captured per-review via the Reception slider, since it changes by carrier / handset.
The Cost chip shows "Free" for free toilets and the price in the local currency (e.g. βͺ 5, $ 1, β¬ 0.50) for paid ones β picked when the throne is added or later edited by the founder.
How do I delete a review I posted?
- Open Profile β My thrones (or open the throne directly).
- Find your review in the list and swipe left, or tap the β― menu on it.
- Tap Delete and confirm.
Your review and its photos are removed; the throne itself stays on the map as long as at least one review remains. The averages re-compute automatically.
If you were the throne's "founder" (the first person to drop it) and other reviews exist, the founder badge passes to the next-earliest reviewer β the throne keeps its history. If your review was the only one, the throne is removed from the map (we keep its data archived, in case it can be re-listed later).
How do I edit a review?
Open the throne, find your review, and tap the β― menu β Edit review. You can change the scores, the comment, and who sees it. If you're the throne's founder, you can also edit the description and the amenity facts (paper / soap / baby-changing / accessible) from the same sheet.
Photos can't be edited. Every throne needs a minimum of two photos at all times, so swapping or removing them isn't allowed inline. If you really need to change the photos, delete the throne (or your founder review, if others have reviewed it) and re-add it with the new photos.
Friends don't get a second notification for an edit.
Who can see my review? Can I post anonymously?
Every public review is visible to anyone using Loocation β that's what makes the map useful. What you control is whether your identity is attached:
- Public β your name and avatar appear on the review card.
- Anonymous β the review (text, scores, photos) stays public, but to other users it shows up as "Anonymous user" with a generic avatar instead of your name. Your own copy of the review still shows as yours so you can find it.
The choice is per-review. You see the toggle when posting and again when editing.
Dropping a throne
How do I add a new throne to the map?
- Tap the + button in the center of the tab bar.
- If there's already a throne nearby, you'll be asked whether you mean that one or want to add a new one.
- Pick the kind: Public, Business, or Private.
- For Public: drop two photos, pick the place type (park / mall / cafΓ© / etc.), answer paper/soap/accessibility/baby-changing/Wi-Fi, and give an overall rating. The optional comment field becomes your first review on this throne. For Private: nothing's required β just tap Save with as little or as much detail as you want; it's your journal.
- Tap Save.
The throne header on the map shows the place name (pulled from the address you dropped the pin on) plus a place-type chip β not the founder's name. Public thrones go live on the map immediately. Business listings go into a manual review queue (see below). Private thrones only appear on your own map, and you can edit any of it (review comment, scores, amenities, Wi-Fi) later from the throne's detail screen.
What's the difference between Public, Business, and Private?
- Public β crowd-sourced. Anyone can find, rate, and review it.
- Business β for owners only. Submitted with verification documents; gets a β badge once approved. Owners manage hours, happy hours, and can respond to reviews.
- Private β only you see it. Acts as a personal restroom journal β only your scores count toward its rating.
I dropped a throne by mistake β how do I remove it?
Just delete your initial review on it (Profile β My thrones, swipe left). If no other reviews exist, the throne disappears from the map automatically. If others have already reviewed it, the throne stays and the founder badge passes to the next-earliest reviewer β that way the community history is preserved.
For business owners
How do I claim or register my business throne?
- Tap the + button on the map.
- In the kind picker, choose Business throne.
- Fill in the business name, Google Business URL, optional website, business email, opening hours, and category.
- Upload your registration certificate (Χ.Χ€ or Χ’ΧΧ‘Χ§ ΧΧΧ¨Χ©Χ) and a photo of the owner's ID.
- Add at least two photos (one outside, one inside) and answer the basic facts.
- Submit for review.
If a public throne already exists at the same spot, choose "use the existing one" first, then upgrade it through Profile β My businesses.
What documents do you need for verification?
- Registration certificate β your Χ.Χ€ (LTD) or Χ’ΧΧ‘Χ§ ΧΧΧ¨Χ©Χ document. Photo, scan, or PDF.
- Owner ID β a photo of the national ID of someone authorized to represent the business.
Both are stored encrypted in a private bucket and seen only by our review team. They're not shown anywhere in the app.
How long does verification take?
Usually 1β2 business days. We email you when it's approved (or if we need anything else), and the app sends a push notification too. Until then, the throne sits in the queue and isn't visible on the public map β but you can still see it on yours.
How do I set opening hours / happy hour?
During registration, the form has a weekly opening-hours editor. Tap each day to add one or more open windows. For cafΓ©, restaurant, and bar categories, a separate Happy hours section appears below β same editor, but those windows make your pin glow gold on the map and add a "Happy hour" badge during the active time.
You can change all of this later from Profile β My businesses.
Can I respond to reviews on my business?
Yes β open the review on your business throne and tap Reply. Your reply shows up under the review with your business name and verified badge.
How do I temporarily hide my business?
Profile β My businesses β tap the listing β toggle Active off. The pin disappears from everyone else's map (you still see it on yours). Toggle it back on whenever.
How do I cancel a pending business application?
While the listing is still in our review queue (status: Pending review), open Profile β My businesses β tap the listing β Cancel application. The pending row and its uploaded verification documents are removed and we'll be notified. You can re-apply any time.
I'm done with my business listing β how do I remove it?
Once a listing is approved, Profile β My businesses β tap the listing β Unlink or deleteβ¦ gives you two choices:
- Just unlink β keep the throne. The business stuff (name, hours, happy hours, β badge, verification documents, business URLs) is wiped, but the throne stays on the map as a regular community spot. Every existing review, photo, visit, like and comment stays β really useful for the next person looking for a public toilet there.
- Delete everything. Wipes the throne and every review/photo/visit attached. Irreversible. Requires an SMS code on the phone number tied to your account before the deletion runs β same protection as account deletion. Use this only if the spot is no longer publicly accessible.
If the bathroom is staying open to the public, please pick "unlink" β the community history is what makes the map valuable.
Friends & social
How do I add a friend?
Open the Friends tab and either:
- Search by username β type someone's @ handle.
- Search by phone β type the last 6+ digits of their number to find an exact or partial match.
- Find from contacts β let Loocation check which of your contacts already use the app. Numbers are normalized on your device, sent server-side for matching, and discarded after the lookup; we don't keep your contact list.
Tap Add friend on a result; once they accept, you'll see each other's friends-only reviews and get notified when they post new ones.
How do I get notified when friends post reviews?
Settings β toggle Friend review notifications on. You'll get a push when any friend posts a review you're allowed to see. Tapping the notification opens that throne directly.
How do I unfriend someone?
Friends tab β tap the friend's row β Unfriend. They won't be notified, and their friends-only reviews will stop showing up for you.
Account & privacy
How do I change my display name, username, or phone?
Profile β tap your name/username/phone at the top of the page. Each opens a small editor sheet. Username changes are limited to once every 30 days; phone changes go through SMS verification.
How do I export my data?
Profile β Settings β Export my data. Loocation packages everything tied to your account (profile, founded thrones, reviews, visits, photos, friendships, likes, comments, push tokens) into a single JSON file and opens the iOS share sheet so you can save it to Files, AirDrop it, or email it to yourself.
The export runs entirely client-side via an authenticated Supabase function β only you can ever request your own data this way.
How do I delete my account?
Profile β scroll to the bottom β Delete my account. After confirming you understand what gets removed, we send a 6-digit code to the phone number on your account; entering the code triggers the deletion.
The SMS step is there so a borrowed or stolen phone can't wipe your account without access to your number. If you've lost your phone, change the number on your profile first (Profile β tap your phone β re-verify with a new SIM) and then come back to delete.
Deletion is immediate and cascades: profile, reviews, photos, visits, friend links, push tokens, and any business listings you own are all removed. There's no recovery.
What does a "Private" throne mean? Can I convert it later?
A private throne is invisible to everyone except you β it acts as a personal restroom journal, with only your own scores counting toward its rating.
Private β Public is supported: open the throne and tap Make this throne public. The throne, the photos, and every review you've written there get flipped to public visibility β anyone using Loocation will be able to see them. The conversion is permanent.
Public β Private is not supported, since other people's reviews on the throne would have to be deleted. Pick "private" upfront if you want a journal.
I have a different question.
Use the contact form β we usually reply within 1β2 business days.
